About us

Established in 2013 Destiny Pier is owned and run by myself - Jeanette Hersey maker of handmade glass lamp worked beads, hand-worked silver jewellery, and lovely things.

I live in a tiny rural village with my husband and my sons Charlie and Eric. I also have two beautiful daughters Jessica and Maisie and two grandchildren, Cassie and Oliver. I am blessed to work for myself creating and experimenting with colour and design.

All my glass beads are made by me here in lovely Devon in the UK. I make them all by hand using traditional and modern lampworking methods. I take rods of beautiful glass from Murano in Italy and around the world and I work them in a very hot flame. I melt and manipulate the syrupy, molten glass using gravity and hand tools to shape the piece. Sometimes fine silver wire and leaf or gold leaf is used, also I may use fritt (crushed glass) or enamels to create different designs. Thinner rods or stringers of coloured glass are used to decorate the piece.

My beads are then annealed in a digitally controlled kiln. This process of cooling the glass over many hours gives the glass its strength and durability. My beads are then cleaned and inspected. Some may be tumbled of etched for a satin soft finish. I then use my beads to make unique and beautiful jewellery.

Many of my pieces are one of a kind and totally unique. With such a wide ranging palette of colour my designs are only limited by the imagination and my ever growing skillset. From time to time I take a break from my glass to work with Sterling silver, creating and forging by hand to create 925 Sterling Jewellery. I enjoy my commission work which includes totally bespoke pieces. I also work with Hair and Cremation ashes to create keepsake and memory pieces.

'Destiny Pier' is an anagram of 'Serendipity' - the discovery of beautiful and wonderful things that you did not even know you needed quite by accident. ♡
